Hyderabad: A woman who was crossing the road on ORR was run over and killed by a speeding car. Her niece who was accompanying her was injured. According to rules pedestrians are prohibited from entering ORR. Police said the mishap occurred when the two women were crossing the road to meet their husbands who are contract employees of HMDA. The deceased was identified as R. Devi, 40.
Police said Devi and her niece Shivleela were residents of Harshaguda village. As Shivleela was suffering from back pain, they had come to Shamshabad for a check up. After the check up, they took an autorickshaw till Tondupally. Devi’s husband Bikya and Shivleela’s husband Jagan were engaged in tree watering and pruning on ORR. After getting down from the lorry Shivleela being sick sat down on the road while Devi entered lane 1 of ORR.
“Meanwhile, a speeding car hit both the women. Devi was flung in the air and died on the spot while Shivleela suffered injuries and is out of danger now,” Shamshabad SI S. Suresh said. A case was registered against car driver Praveen who is being questioned.
