Man sent to remand for beating wife

The couple has a five-year-old daughter and Jyothi is six months pregnant now.

Hyderabad: The Langar House police arrested a man on Friday on charges of harassing his pregnant wife for additional dowry and branding her at Nanal Nagar of Langar House area here on Friday.

According to Langar House police, the victim K. Jyothi, 31, a staff nurse at the Modern Maternity Hospital in Petla Burj, married Prashanth Kumar, a web designer six years ago.

The couple has a five-year-old daughter and Jyothi is six months pregnant now.

“Soon after marriage, he started harassing her for additional dowry,” police said.

“Recently, after Jyothi's mother retired, his harassment increased as he started demanding her mother’s money as well,” police added.

On Thursday evening, the couple fought over the issue and Prashanth Kumar beat her.

“He then hit her on her head, hands, legs and back with a hot iron box. She was shifted to hospital and being treated,” police said.

Based on the complaint by Jyothi's family, a case for attempt to murder, dowry harassment, threatening and causing injuries was booked and the case is being probed.

Prashanth Kumar was arrested and produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody.
