Kerala: Rape charges filed against MLA M Vincent

Mr Vincent had earlier alleged a political conspiracy behind the incident.

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA M. Vincent has been charge-sheeted in the rape case by the special police team. Apart from rape, various other sections of Indian Penal Code for abetment of suicide, attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman and abusing a woman on phone were charged against him. The legislator represents Kovalam constituency here.

The charge sheet was admitted by the Neyyatinkara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-III last week and Mr Vincent was summoned to appear on January 15 for reading out the charges. The allegations against Mr Vincent came up after a woman hailing from Balaramapuram, aged around 50, attempted suicide by taking sedative medicines in excess in July. Her husband told the police that sleaze talk by the MLA forced her to attempt suicide.

A police team led by Kollam city police commissioner Ajeetha Begum and Neyyatinkara DySP Harikumar B. probed the case. The MLA was arrested and was under remand for more than a month. He later got bail. Police sources said that there were nine witnessed in the incident. Apart from the victim, other key witnesses were her brother and husband. There are records of audio conversations of the MLA in which he could be heard admitting to the offences. Mr Vincent had earlier alleged a political conspiracy behind the incident.
