HYDERABAD: Physics teacher Dora Babu, who beat up intermediate students at Sri Chaitanya Junior College, is absconding. SR Nagar police has booked a case against him under sections of the Indian Penal Code and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000. On Saturday the police went to the college and recorded the testimonies of the only victim willing to come out in the open. Other students were not willing to come on record and testify, fearing a backlash from the college management.
“We could only record the statement of one victim, Md Shareef. Other students were not ready to come forward,” said SR Nagar inspector Md. Waheeduddin. The students said they were under pressure from their parents not to ruin their careers by testifying. “Our parents fear that the school management might fail us in the upcoming exam. They also do not want us to get involved in a police case and get entangled in the legal procedure,” said one student who did not want to be named.
