Hyderabad: Police has arrested the NRI techie who abandoned his wife and nine-month-old son at the RGI Airport a month ago.

A harassment case was booked against Y. Keerthisai Reddy, a US-based mechanical engineer, after his mother-in-law filed a complaint against him. Police said his mother harassed wife Sirisha and did not allow her to breastfeed their son.

Keerthisai and Sirisha got married in April 2015 and went to the US. Keerthisai worked as a mechanical engineer in Virginia and Sirisha, an engineering graduate, was a housewife. After she gave birth to a boy he started harassing her suspecting her fidelity.

Meanwhile, his mother Vanitha also went to the US and she too started harassing Sirisha suspecting her fidelity. Unable to bear the torture, Sirisha called her mother in Hyderabad.

Sirisha’s mother approached the police with the help of NGOs and filed a complaint at the Vanasthalipuram police station in January. A case under Section 498-A (harassment) was registered against Keerthi-sai. In February, the couple came to Hyderabad. After landing, Keerthisai drove home along with his mother.

Not knowing what to do Sirisha approached ASI Dhan Singh for help. The ASI arranged a cab for her to reach her parents’ home in Vanasthali-puram. Police summoned both parties and counselled them. Keerthisai was released as he had anticipatory bail.
