Bengaluru: Man held for duping people

The accused was doing it for the last two years.

Bengaluru: A cheat who posed as a Bengaluru South CEO of a franchise attached to KEONICS and duped people of lakhs of rupee under the pretext of providing government-offered flats landed in police net on Saturday.

The HAL police have arrested Rajkumar (45), a resident of Jayanagar, on charges of cheating people after providing them with an assurance of enrolling their names for Ashraya houses in Marathahalli.

The accused posed as the CEO of the franchise, despite KEONICS cancelling it long back and had made a duplicate identity card to convince his authenticity. According to HAL Inspector Sadiq Pasha, Rajkumar was approaching potential house buyers and claimed that he could enrol their names for flats offered by the government under Ashraya scheme.

“The accused was doing it for the last two years. He used to show under-construction building to the potential buyers and would charge 10-15 thousand rupees as the processing fee to enrol for the scheme and disappear. There are more than 20 complaints against him in HAL police station,” Pasha said. “The exact amount and the number of people the accused has cheated is not yet known as we are still interrogating him. We are also receiving calls from people in different areas who claim to be cheated from the same person,” the inspector said.
