Salem: West Zone IG Pari said that monitoring has been stepped up in Coimbatore and Ooty border areas to prevent infiltration of Naxals.

Speaking on the sidelines of a shooting competition for police officials in Yercaud foothills, the IG said that check posts have been installed and round the clock vigil is maintained particularly in Coimbatore and Ooty districts that share borders with other states. He said in view of ‘Vinayagar Chathurthi’, over 8,000 cops including armed reserve police and home guards have been deployed for security. “All sensitive areas will be given additional security,”he said.

In the shooting competition, Salem Zone DIG Senthil Kumar secured the first place, while Salem deputy commissioner (crime) Ramakrishnan came second and Dharmapuri SP, Bhandi Gangadhar bagged the third place.
