Telangana: IVF clinic raided, 50 women surrogates found

An official from the district health departmend said they had received tip-off on Padmaja Fertility Center at Prince Chowrasta.

Hyderabad: District health officials raided an IVF clinic at Bhongir, about 50 km from the city, and found over 50 women surrogates living in a hostel adjacent to the clinic. Officials are verifying the legality of the clinic.

An official from the district health departmend said they had received tip-off on Padmaja Fertility Center at Prince Chowrasta. “The women were brought from different parts of the country and were put up at this shelter in large rooms. We found 50 of them here,” he said.

He said the clinic was charging Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh fee for surrogacy, and had been active for four years. “The surrogate mothers are paid Rs 2 lakh. There are women from Telangana state, Maharashtra and north India,” he said.
