Punjab: Co-accused in abduction and rape of Dalit woman arrested

Two days back, the main accused in the case, Gurinder, aged around 25, had surrendered before a court in Muktsar.

Moga: Muktsar Police on Sunday arrested the co-accused in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of a Dalit woman, from Malout bus stand.

Sandeep Singh, who hails from Khandu Khera village in Muktsar, was arrested in the early hours on Sunday from Malout bus stand, a Muktsar police official said.

He was driving the car which was used to abduct the victim, they said, adding the car has been seized.

Two days back, the main accused in the case, Gurinder, aged around 25, had surrendered before a court in Muktsar.

The woman, a Dalit, was dragged by Gurinder from a computer centre in Malout in Muktsar. The CCTV footage showed the accused forcibly dragging the woman, said to be in her early 20s, out of her office in broad daylight on March 25. The woman is seen struggling to break free from her alleged abductor.

After abducting her, the accused took her to Tapa Khera village in Muktsar district and allegedly raped her. About five days after the incident, the woman had got an FIR registered in the case after which the police were on a lookout for the accused.

Earlier, the Scheduled Caste Commission had taken serious note of the incident and asked the SSP to file a report on the matter.
