Salem: A huge haul of 1098 kgs of allegedly adulterated tea dust was seized from two different places near Edappadi in Salem district on Thursday, as the Food quality control and safety officials continued their crackdown. Sources said that on a complaint received by the department, officials undertook a surprise inspection of godowns in and around Edappadi to check for adulterated tea powder and dust.
At one place in K.Pudur, officials seized 110 kgs of adulterated tea dust from a tea trader, Mr. Elango, sources said.
A search at a godown belonging to one Mr. Azhaghar at Vellandivalasu yielded a rich catch of 998 kgs of adulterated tea, sources said, adding, further probe is on and the godown has been sealed.
