Bengaluru: Two attack cops to evade arrest, shot at

Bengaluru: The police opened fire at two habitual offenders after they allegedly tried to evade arrest by attacking the police. The incident took place on Sunday night in Kareem Saab Layout in Rajagopalanagar police station limits.

The two accused, identified as Rafi, 28, a resident of Kamalanagar and Sudhakar , a resident of Prakash Nagar, have been arrested by the police.

Rafi was involved in 18 cases, including four murder cases registered in Basaveshwara Nagar and Tavarekere police stations, while Sudhakar was also involved in 18 cases. He was the prime suspect in a murder case in Sriramapura police station in 2016 and had been absconding since then.

According to the police, on Sunday night, some unidentified miscreants had smashed the windshields of 14 cars parked in JC Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout. Eight cases were registered in this regard with the Mahalakshmi Layout police.

A special team was formed to investigate the case and the police received credible information that the two were moving in a car in Kareem Saab Layout in Rajagopalanagar police station limits.

The police immediately chased the car and the Mahalakshmi Layout inspector Lohit B.N., stopped the car by shooting the car tyre.

The police surrounded the car and asked them to surrender. But the duo tried to attack Lohith with a dagger and a knife. Subramanyanagar Inspector Mahendra Kumar opened fire at them and they sustained injuries on their legs and later hospitalized.

A senior official said that after vandalizing cars in J.C. Nagar, the two had robbed a person in Rajajinagar police station limits.

They have also committed crimes in the neighbouring states and were wanted by Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh police.
