Bengaluru: 3 kg gold burgled at Banaswadi, 1 member of Nepali gang held

The gang members, who came to the city last month, had taken up security guard jobs around Banaswadi.

Bengaluru: The city police have cracked a robbery case involving a Nepali gang which targeted a house in Lakshmipati Layout in Banaswadi and fled with around 3 kg of gold ornaments on August 13.

The house belongs to Industrialist Raghu Raju, and the burglary took place when Raghu and his family was away at Shirdi.

The police arrested Arka Sai (26) – one of the gang members – from Pune, where he was hiding after committing the burglary. The police are searching for three other members of the gang, who are also said to be hiding in Maharashtra.

The gang members, who came to the city last month, had taken up security guard jobs around Banaswadi. Arka was working as a guard at an apartment close to Raghu’s house. Arka got himself familiarised with Raghu by wishing him regularly.

On August 12, Raghu met Arka and told him to guard the house as the family would be away for four days. Making use of the opportunity, Arka called his three other gang members and committed the burglary the very next day.

A Raghu’s relative stated in his complaint that the burglars had broken open the door and cut open the locker with gas cutter and fled with around 3 kg of gold ornaments. Following the complaint, the police had formed a special team to nab the burglars. They recovered half-a-kg of gold ornaments from Arka.
