Gold worth Rs 2 crore seized at Karipur airport

The customs officials who examined his baggage found the gold hidden inside a UPS.

Mapalluram: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 6.4 kg of gold worth Rs 2 crore from a passenger at Calicut International Airport at Karipur on Wednesday night. Following a tip-off, the DRI officials from Kozhikode intercepted the carrier Thaslih, 27, of Naduvannur in Kozhikode district, and arrested him.

He had arrived by an Air India Express flight from Bahrain. The customs officials who examined his baggage found the gold hidden inside a UPS. The battery of the UPS was replaced to conceal 52 gold bars inside it. The DRI has launched a detailed probe into the incident.
