Bengaluru: Astrologer and numerologist Aaryavardan, who was at large following a molestation complaint by a woman, was nabbed by the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police on Friday evening.
A 26-year-old woman, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, had filed a complaint with the police on December 10, alleging that she was molested by the numerologist in August this year. The numerologist also appears in astrology related programmes on regional TV channels.
She had stated that she had approached the accused to learn numerology and had registered for the course about six months ago.
She had also paid a total of Rs 1.74 lakh for two courses. On August 21, the accused had allegedly molested the woman at his house located in R.R. Nagar.
The police had booked the astrologer under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 420 (cheating), and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and other sections of the IPC.
Based on the complaint, the police were on the look out for the accused, who was absconding. He was traced to Pondichery and nabbed while he was returning to the city after a visiting a temple on Friday evening.
After a preliminary inquiry, the police produced him before the court on Saturday evening.
The accused was granted interim bail and was released. However, the police summoned him to appear for interrogation on Sunday morning.
