Hyderabad: 2 held with Rs 45 lakh worth gold, silver

The accused were carrying 10 gold biscuits weighing 10 tolas each, along with 16 silver pieces in handbags.

Hyderabad: Two employees of a jewellery shop in Nanded were arrested by the Railway police on Tuesday for attempting to illegally transport gold and silver worth Rs 45 lakh to their shop without proper documents.

The accused have been identified as Vishal Raja Ram Varma, 30, and Nikhil Govind Varma, 26, both employees at Gopi Jewellery Art in Sarafa Bazar, Nanded.

According to the Railway police, the accused were caught red-handed on the foot overbridge of the railway station, between the platforms 6 and 7, carrying gold and silver biscuits. G. Ashok Kumar, Superintendent of Railway police, said, “They were carrying 10 gold biscuits weighing 10 tolas each, amounting to 1 kg of gold, along with 16 raw silver pieces, amounting to 30 kg of silver, in handbags.”

They were asked to produce the required documents but failed to do so. During the inquiry, they revealed that they were transporting the goods from Monda market to their shop in Nanded, Maharashtra.

The Railway police have registered a case under section 102 of the CrPC of RPS Secunderabad and have seized the goods worth Rs 45 lakh.
