Hyderabad man found dead in London, kin seeks government's help

34-year-old Mir Baquer Ali Rizvi, who had been living in the UK for six years, was found dead at an underground station in London.

Hyderabad: A 34-year-old man from Hyderabad, pursuing an MBA in London, was found dead there last Tuesday. Mir Baquer Ali Rizvi, a resident of Miralam Mandi, had left for London in 2009 after completing his graduation from Hyderabad.

The victim’s family has requested the Government of India to help them bring back the body as soon as possible.

"Three years ago, he had an accident in which he got seriously injured. After getting treated there, he came to India for around 45 days in 2014. After that he went back. He had a case filed against him in a UK court which he won," Taqi Haider, the victim's brother-in-law, said.

"This year on April 14, there was a marriage reception of his brother. He sent his best wishes to us over phone. The next day the police told us about him that he was found dead," he added.

Haider requested External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to look into the matter. "I also request the government to handover the body to us," he added.

Last Friday, Baquer’s family got information through police that their son was found dead near Osterley Railway station in the British capital. Officials suspect Baquer was in a car crash but the details are still unclear.

A communication to the family from the Central Bureau of Investigation said Baquer was found dead near the train station on Tuesday night at around 9 pm.

According to reports, British Transport Police (BTP), which led the investigation, said it is not treating the death as suspicious and it does not believe a third party was involved.

"We were called to Osterley London Underground station at 7.45pm on Tuesday, 12th April, following reports of a person being struck by a train," a BTP spokesperson said. "The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been made aware. A file will be prepared for the coroner."

The official cause of death will only be confirmed by a coroner at a future date, but murder is being ruled out at this stage.
