Suspected Thief, Who Took Shelter on a Rock, Escapes

Hyderabad: An unidentified suspect who had taken shelter on a rock on Friday in the middle of Suraram Pedda Cheruvu has escaped, police said on Saturday. The man was suspected of an attempted house burglary in Shiva Ganganagar, and the police are trying to identify and track him down.

The man, said to be aged between 35 and 40 years, had said that he would surrender before Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy or former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He refused to negotiate.

The suspect had broken into the house of P. Nandu at 4.30 pm on Friday. The family returned home just then and raised an alarm, Suraram inspector M. Venkateshwar Rao said.

As locals gathered there, the suspect escaped, entered the lake and swam to a rock in the middle of the lake. Police surrounded the place and asked him to surrender till midnight, but in vain. By morning he was gone.

“Police tried to enter into the lake but the water was filthy with the drain water. Our teams are conducting search operations in Lal Sab forest nearby. We have alerted the neighbouring police stations,” inspector Venkateshwar Rao said.
