Cybercrimes more explosive than bombs

India does not have anything indigenous in the cybercrime space.

HYDERABAD: With increasing cyber threats, internet bandwidth has become a cause of worry.

Mr U. Ram Mohan, SP-CID cybercrimes, said, “Bombs would not impact the democratic process of the country but cyber issues can cause a lot of damages. Some other country is able to put pokes into another country’s electoral process. It shows the reach of cybercrime.”

India does not have anything indigenous in the cybercrime space. However, it did not fare well in the trustworthiness. Experts asked people to know about cybercri-mes and ways to prevent them.

With the online activities, people easily fall into the trap. As every person can be easily tracked and the attacker seems to be genuine. Furthermore, 90 per cent of passwords are being easily hacked. Terrorists have better methods to change passwords. Dr Anjani Kumar, additional DGP, law and order, said, “One of the terrorists was found changing his password each day for six months. They know the intricacies of not changing the password. Changing password has now become important aspect in life.”

There is lack of participation from people in the advance stage of cyber security. “A society need to have knowledge about technology and crime prevention. There is a cop in every one of us. We need to chisel here and there. Everyone has to take precaution,” he said.

The experts suggest that people and governments have to work together to curb cyber attacks.
