Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police have booked a case against Zakir, also known as Zaki from Mangaluru, for creating and circulating a video urging people to pray for Hamas.
In light of the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Zakir had called on individuals to offer prayers for Hamas. He recorded this message and shared it via WhatsApp, which subsequently went viral on social media.
Concerns were raised by the people, as it was seen as a show of support for Hamas.
In order to prevent potential communal tensions arising from such messages, Inspector Vinayak Toragal of the Mangaluru North Police Station registered a suo motu case on Saturday. Zakir was taken to custody and presented before the court.
The police further added that Zakir, a resident of Bunder in Mangaluru, already has eight previous cases against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
