Karnataka: Goons at Alliance varsity scare students

They said that the goons even barged into the premises of the girls' hostel situated within the campus.

Bengaluru: Monday turned out to be another day of terror for the students of Alliance University at Anekal, as goons, equipped with lethal weapons, got in to the campus and attacked faculty members. The second such incident in the last four days over a family feud between brothers over holding the reins of the university is now causing inconvenience to the students. They said that the goons even barged into the premises of the girls’ hostel situated within the campus.

“There has been high drama at the college since Sudhir G. Angur took over. But the problem escalated since last Friday. The goons hang around near our hostel surroundings in the night. This is scaring us and we think twice before stepping out even to have our food,” said a girl student. On Friday, faculty members hired by former chancellor Madhukar Angur were ousted from the campus by force by goons. The eviction episode continued on Monday morning and staff members of the housekeeping team protested against their sudden dismissal.

A student said that chaotic scenes at the campus have affected the teaching schedule for the last three months. “I am an out-of-state student and my parents have put in lakhs of rupees for my education here. This dispute threatens our lives. We are wondering whether to pursue our studies or move away from the campus to safety,” said the student.

The police presence around the campus has been increased up after the management requested security from the authorities. As many as 7,000 students pursue various courses at the university, which was set up in 2010. The elder of Angur brothers, Madhukar, was terminated from the chancellor’s post on April 7, 2016 after he was found guilty of various charges against him.
