Bengaluru: Odisha man posing as Army sepoy held

Ulsoor police rushed to the Command Hospital, where the accused was waiting for his targets, and arrested him.

BENGALURU: Officials of the Military Intelligence with the help of Ulsoor police arrested a 22-year-old imposter from Odisha, who posing as an Army sepoy duped gullible unemployed youth by promising them jobs in the Army.

The accused, Debabrat Raut, hailed from Jhani Pada, Odisha. Following inputs from Military Intelligence, Ulsoor police rushed to the Command Hospital, where the accused was waiting for his targets, and arrested him.

Initially, he tried to misguide the officials identifying himself as a gunman of ASC, but upon detailed questioning, he confessed to the crime. The accused was later handed over to the jurisdictional Ulsoor police station and remanded to judicial custody.

The fraud came to light after one Ajit Kumar Sahoo from Bhubaneswar filed a complaint. Sahoo stated that Rout had created a fake appointment letter and had promised him a job in army after demanding Rs 2 lakh. Realising something amiss, Sahoo approached the police on Tuesday and lodged the complaint, the police said.
