Hyderabad: Noted Tollywood producer Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary alias KP Chowdary, known for releasing Tamil movie Kabali in Telugu, has been arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team on Tuesday and huge quantity of cocaine was seized from him possession.
Police found that Chowdary's clients are spread across movie circles including tollywood and Kollywood and also in business circles. He procured ganja from Petit Ebuzer, a Nigerian national and was using for self consumption and supply in his circles. He is also associated with drug kingpin Edwin Nunes who was arrested by HNEW earlier.
The seized material include 90 sachets of Cocaine weighing 82.75 Grams, Cash of Rs. 2.05 lakh, his Mercedes, and Mobile Phones, all worth Rs 78.50 lakh, said DCP Rajendranagar R Jagadishwar Reddy.
Police said Chowdary who relocated to Goa a few months ago, started OHM Club in Goa. He used to consume drugs with friends and also celebrities from Hyderabad who visited his club at Goa.
While coming to Hyderabad in April 2023, he procured 100 sachets of cocaine from Petit, of which he used 10 sachets for self-consumption and for selling to his friends.
On Tuesday, when he was leaving home in his Mercedes, carrying the left over sachets, he landed in the police net.
Police suspect he was on the way to sell the drug to his friends.
Chowdary, hailing from Khammam district, is a graduate in Mechanical engineering and also worked as Director Operations in Indian Institute of Aeronautical Engineering and Technology at Pune of Maharashtra.
In 2016, he left the job and entered in film industry. He made Kabali movie in Telugu as a producer. He was also distributor for two Telugu movies, Sardar Gabbarsingh and Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, a Tamil movie Kanitan.
However, he ran into losses. During his short stint in the film industry, he built good relations with celebrities in the industry.
The absconding accused Petit is also wanted in drug peddling cases at Raidurgam PS of Cyberabad.
