Hyderabad: Fugitive held; gold, silver seized

CCS officials said Srinivas was a civil contractor till 2006 and was living in his village in Kadapa district.

Hyderabad: An interstate fugitive, who had escaped from the custody of the police three times, landed in a Cyberabad police trap on Saturday. The fugitive, Kadapa native Derangula Srinivas, 32, is allegedly involved in murder, burglary, robbery and chain snatching in two states. Cops recovered gold ornaments weighing half kg and 2.5 kg silver articles from him.

CCS officials said Srinivas was a civil contractor till 2006 and was living in his village in Kadapa district. He became a criminal after committing a murder in Tadepalligudem in 2006.

“After that he started committing crimes. He is involved in criminal offences in Anantapur, Chittoor, East Godavari, Guntur, Nellore, Praka-sam and Cyberabad,” said a CCS official.

In 2013, Srinivas was convicted to life by a court in a murder case. However, he escaped from the jail escort team at Nidadavolu. Police captured him again and sent him to jail. In 2014, he escaped from Rajahm-undry police while he was taken for questioning in another case. The police arrested him at Hanuman Junction later.

However, in 2015, he managed to escape from the custody of Rajahmundry police during prisoner transit. He came to Hyderabad and started living in a house at Nizampet in KPHB. He and his associate had been committing offences in the city since then. Cyberabad police found that he was involved in 16 burglaries in the city. The police sent him to judicial remand.
