Hyderabad: 4 Nigerians held in job fraud case

Hyderabad: A four-member gang of Nigerians who duped a job aspirant of Rs 47 lakh by promising him employment abroad was arrested by the Cyberabad cyber crime police on Saturday.

The victim is chief executive officer in a private company who was looking for better prospects. A former employee of the department of atomic energy, he used to regularly update his resume in job portals.

In January, he received a phone call from a person claiming to be ‘Heather Williams, CEO and business development officer of Roggal Hotel and Apartments Los Angles’. The caller said the victim had been shortlisted for a job as chief manager and invited him to attend an interview.

In another call, his porported wife told the victim she had arrived in India and was staying at the British Consulate. She interviewed him on the telephone and declared him selected. Next, he received a call from ‘Akita Kumari from New Delhi’ who said ‘Heather Williams’ wife’ was carrying a demand draft for $1,75,000 as his annual salary. He was asked to pay Rs 55,000 for release of the DD. He complied. In subsequent transactions, the victim paid a total of Rs 47 lakh before realising he was cheated, Cyberabad police inspector V.C. Sajjanar stated. Police found that Nigerian national Diongue Mohammed alias Nwosu Donald Prosper has posed as Heather Williams.
