Bengaluru: Auto driver robbed, burned

Bengaluru: An auto driver was robbed by two men who threw petrol on him and set his hands on fire in Viveknagar Police station limits early Friday.

The victim, Mohammed Asif, sustained burn injuries and filed a complaint with the in Viveknagar police station.

According to the police, at around 12:30 am, while Asif was waiting near the Victoria Road, two men approached him and asked him to take them to Ejipura.

On their way, the two borrowed a matchbox from him and asked him to take a shortcut and go through a narrow lane which was deserted.

The two asked him to stop the auto and as soon as he applied brakes, they dragged him out and told him to hand over his valuables.

He resisted and the two started beating him. One of the accused was carrying petrol in a bottle, he opened the bottle and threw the petrol on him and they lit the fire, while the other one took Rs 500 from his pocket and they fled.

Asif’s hand and shirt was caught fire and he immediately removed his shirt and doused the fire.

He immediately alerted the police who rushed him to a nearby hospital. The Viveknagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
