Saidabad: Gang targetting supermarkets held by cops

The gang has committed 10 such offences in the past four days in the three police commissionerates in the city.

Hyderabad: Saidabad police has arrested a gang of 11 people, all natives of Mumbai, for committing thefts from supermarkets and general stores. There were six women in the gang, who enter a store two at a time and walk away with products and apparels, police said. Officials seized goods worth Rs 2 lakh from their possession along with Rs 51,000 cash, 10 cell phones and an autorickshaw. The gang has committed 10 such offences in the past four days in the three police commissionerates in the city.

The arrested accused were identified as Razia Narsimlu Gujjarwar, 34, Zareena Banu Shaik Khalifa alias Zareena, 35, Hazara Khatun, 33, Reshma Usman Sha, 36, Bismillah Saleem Shaik, 30, Anjanabai Ramesh Pawar, 24, Diwakar Sharma, 25, Saleem Mahabub Sab Shaik, 30, Nayeem Shaik Khalifa, Brijesh Yadav and Sabavath Ravi, police said.

The arrest was made based on a complaint received from N. Arun Kumar, a store owner in Saidabad, stating that on August 6, six women walked into his store posing as customers and walked out without buying anything, which was suspicious, said the DCP of East Zone, G. Ramesh.

“Later that night, he checked the CCTV cameras, which revealed that the first two ladies walked in and went to a corner, following which two more ladies came in. They were then surrounded by six men who helped the women pick up personal care products like creams, deodorants and shampoos,” said the official.

Based on the clues gathered by the footage and their modus operandi, Saidabad police nabbed them and placed them under arrest on Sunday and set them to judicial remand.
