Madhukar Reddy was watching suicide videos, says wife

She said her husband suffered from mood swings and behaved extremely abnormally for short durations.

Hyderabad: G. Swati, the widow of NRI techie G. Madhukar Reddy who committed suicide a week ago at his home in the United States has said that Madhukar Reddy had been watching videos on his laptop on how to commit suicide.

Speaking to the media a day after the last rites of her husband were performed, she said her husband suffered from mood swings and behaved extremely abnormally for short durations.

Swati and their daughter, Sharmishtha, could not attend the funeral as they were turned away by Madhukar Reddy’s relatives. Swati, who spoke to the media along with her father B. Narsimha Reddy, revealed that Madhukar had been deeply depressed for the past few months.

“He would be normal at one moment; then he would turn violent and assault me. But he would immediately apologise and say that he loved me. He was on medication,” she said. Though he was short-tempered, he was a good person, she added.

Madhukar Reddy was worried about what the future held in store as his job contract was to expire in June.“He always thought about the next job and said he would not be able to cope with new technology,” Swati said.

Blaming her in-laws for the present situation, she said she had informed them many times abo-ut their son’s condition, but they had ignored it. She alleged that her in-laws made a big issue during the funeral only because they felt she would stake a claim to Reddy’s property.
