Inter student drowns in a quarry pit in Aminpur

HYDERABAD: Aminpur police on Wednesday fished out the body of a 17-year-old intermediate student from a quarry pit in Gandigundam. He accidentally drowned in an artificial quarry pit while playing holi with his friends.

According to Aminpur police, the victim Neelam Sai Mudiraj, and six friends were playing holi near the water Tuesday evening when he slipped and fell into the water. His friends tried to rescue him but they too were scared as none of them, including Neelam, knew swimming, police said.

Around 6 pm they went in an auto-rickshaw, in which they had already stocked liquor. After reaching the pond they allegedly started boozing, police sources disclosed.

As Neelam was trying from his friends who were sprinkling holy colours when slipped and fell in the water. The quarry pit is over 100 meters deep and half-a-kilometer in width.

“We searched the quarry pit throughout the night with the help of local dividers and alerted a rescue team. The body was fished out this afternoon”, U. Srinivas Reddy, Aminpur inspector said.

Neelam was a first year MPC student of Kalamanda Reddy college at Madinaguda. His father M Srinivas died a few weeks back and he has been staying with his mother M. Satyavathi in Kothaguda village, Kondapur mandal.

Police have registered a case and shifted the victim's body to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem.
