Kerala rape case: Police gathers forensic proof against killer

The investigation team is now awaiting a report from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kochi: The Special Investigation Team probing the rape and murder of a law student in Perumbavur on Saturday maintained that scientific analysis of evidence against a key suspect is in progress and that a formal arrest could be made in a day or two. DGP T.P. Senkumar met forensic science expert Dr B. Umadutt at the latter’s house here in the morning and discussed the forensic evidences in detail. The investigation team is now awaiting a report from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram.

Killer took away murder weapon

Earlier, the investigation officers took statements of the victim’s sister for the third consecutive day as they collected more information on her friend, a migrant labourer who had gone missing post the murder of Jisha, the 30-year old Dalit woman, on April 28. The cops also continued combing migrant camps in the region.

The investigation officers in the Jisha murder case have arrived at a conclusion that the attacker must have taken the weapon used for the ghastly act along with him as those found on the house premises had no blood stains on them.

Sources said a main challenge before the cops is to find out the motive for the crime and they are relying on the pieces of evidence collected to identify the attacker. Currently three persons, including a migrant labourer, are in police custody.
