Telangana: Sorcerer rapes minor girl

She was suffering from insomnia & nightmares.

Hyderabad: A sorcerer allegedly raped a 17-year-old minor girl at his house in Asad Baba Nagar in Bahadurpura when she came for treatment. Ahmed Khan alias Baba, 45, sexually assaulted her when she came to his house alone. The victim’s mother had taken the girl twice to the Baba earlier as she had insomnia. Her mother believed that Khan could cure her. On Monday evening, her mother, who had gone to hospital, sent the girl alone to Khan’s house for a follow-up.

Police booked a case against the suspect and arrested him. The girl’s mother told the police that her daughter was suffering from insomnia and fatigue. The girl was also aggressive. Whenever she fell asleep she used to wake up seeing nightmares. “Her mother decided to take the help of Khan. Initially, she was accompanied by her mother. Khan did some chanting and told them he was praying for the girl to get well soon. Both the victim and her mother believed him,” said detective inspector D. Guru Naidu of Bahadurpura police station.

Late in the evening on Monday, her mother went out to consult a doctor. Khan had asked the girl to visit him. Trusting Khan, the girl went to his house alone. “He raped her. He also threatened her not to reveal the incident to anybody,” said a police official. The suspects’ wife and kids were not at home when the incident occurred. Police suspect he must have planned to call the girl to sexually assault her.

The girl went back to her house. When her mother came back, she found her crying. She said that Khan had raped and threatened her. The suspect fled from his house when people came to know about the incident. The mother approached police and filed a complaint. Police said they booked a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and IPC 376.

Ahmed khan had started off as a truck driver:

Ahmed Khan was a truck driver before he suddenly “acquired magical powers” two years ago. Many residents in Kishanbagh believed that he was a fraud. But many people blindly trusted him and consulted him for various treatments. “He lives with his three children and wife at home. He still drives the truck for livelihood sake. But he also earns money by scamming people whenever they come to him for treatment. Many of us neighbours were expecting that one day his true nature would come out,” said a resident.

Neighbours said that Khan has been accepting clients since three months, and was conducting prayer sessions. He takes Rs 400 to Rs 500 for a sitting. Many areas of the Old City are infested with sorcerers, who exploit ignorant people.
