AP: Man pushes partner, two kids into Godavari, girl rescued

KAKINADA: A man, who was having a live-in relationship with a married woman, pushed her and her two daughters into River Godavari from the flyover bridge near Ravulapalem of Konaseema district on Sunday.

Later, he fled the spot in a car. “One of the daughters fell on a cable pipeline on the side of the bridge and was hanging from there. She saved herself by catching hold of the pipe and the police rescued her, said Ravulapalem CI, Rajani Kumar.

Police said, The man, Ulava Suresh of Gudivada, was involved in a live-in relationship with a woman, Puppala Suhasini (35) of Tadepalli in the Gunturu district. She was estranged from her first husband but had a daughter, Lakshmi Keerthana, from him. While living with Suresh, she gave birth to a second daughter.”

Suresh took the woman and the two girls in a car to Rajamahendravaram with the promise of buying them clothes. When the car reached the Ravulapalem bridge, he told them to get out of the vehicle to take selfies. While they were doing so, all of a sudden, he pushed Suhasini, Lakshmi Keerthana and the one-year-old Jersy into the river and fled the spot in the car, police said.

“Fortunately, Lakshmi Keerthana fell on a cable pipe and was hanging by it. She pulled out her cell phone and dialled the emergency phone number 100 to alert the police.

Four teams of police personnel reached the spot within 10 minutes and rescued the girl.

Police started a search for the mother Suhasini and her one-year-old daughter Jersy in the river with the help of swimmers and fishermen. Police registered a case. Lakshmi Keerthana was studying class VII. Her mother Suhasini studied upto MCA and was working in a corporate hotel, police said.
