Palakkad SP A. Srinivas has been entrusted with the probe into the alleged lapses and misconduct on the part of the local police. A meeting of top police officers convened by Mr Ajithkumar in Thrissur on Friday found fault with the investigation held so far into the case. A fresh investigation will be held after collecting a new statement from the woman, who alleged on Thursday that Wadakkanchery CPM councillor P.N. Jayanthan, his brother P.N. Janesh and two of her husband’s friends had gang-raped her in April 2014.

Thrissur city police commissioner J. Himendranath said that he had gone through the files of the investigation conducted by Peramangalm CI M.V. Manikandan and removed him from the charge of the investigation on Thursday night. The CI is facing allegations of ill-treating the alleged victim and asking her lewd queries during the investigation. “We intend to bring out the victim out of her trauma and then record a fresh statement from her. Later, all the alleged accused will be questioned,” he said.
