Hyderabad: A major fake mutation entry racket using an iPhone 7 model mobile phone was busted in the GHMC by the Cyberabad cybercrime police on Saturday. The police arrested a GHMC contract employee who is the kingpin of the racket. The racket came to light after officials from the Serilingampally circle found that the ownership of a land parcel was changed to another person’s name without the owner’s knowledge. The police found that the mastermind behind the ring had made over 2,000 fake mutation entries and earned up to Rs 80 lakh in the past two years. Another GHMC contract employee, who was also involved in the racket, was arrested.

According to the police, in February 2017, one of the landowners approached the GHMC Serilingampally circle office stating that the ownership of the property owned by him in Gopanpally village has been changed to the name of M. Parvatha-mma from the name of Mulagiri Narayana. Inquiries revealed that the name of the owner was changed in November 2016 and the IP address from where the entries were made were also found out. Based on a complaint from the GHMC deputy commissioner of West Zone, Cyberabad cybercrime police registered a case.

On investigation, the police found that Bathala Polaiah, who is a data entry operator under the chief evaluation officer, was using his official ID and password to make fake ent-ries of mutation of properties. He was later shifted to the fire prevention wing. There he met Jaga-dish and paid him Rs 1.5 lakh to obtain the ID and the password. He continued his fraudulent activities till March 2017.

Another suspect, Lakhan Singh, paid Polaiah Rs 7,000 to change the ownership of land. “He changed the name of the property in all the GHMC computer recor-ds. For this purpose, he procured a broad band connection from a private service provider and used iPhone 7 model mobile phone to make fake entries,” added Ms Janaki.
