Hyderabad: Troubled by the harassment of three autorickshaw drivers a first year Intermediate student committed suicide at Alwal on Friday. S. Gautami, a student of KMR Junior College of Old Alwal, set herself ablaze. Police booked an abetment to suicide case and detained drivers Vijay, Prakash and Narsinga Rao. S. Balraj, an autorickshaw driver of Alwal, is the union leader at the Old Alwal Autorickshaw stand. He used to solve problems between drivers and others.

Recently when some drivers had a fight, he tried to pacify them and threatened to file a complaint. The drivers were called to the police station and that angered them. On Wednesday when Balraj's eldest daughter Gautami was passing by Suchitra Junction, she saw some auto drivers quarrelling. She returned home and informed her dad about it. Balraj called them and told them not to fight again.

The drivers came to know that Gautami tipped off her father and targeted her. On Thursday while she was on way to college they followed her from the auto stand passing lewd comments. She told about it to her father after returning home. On Friday morning she set herself ablaze at home. “She locked herself up in a room and set herself ablaze. We suspect that she was troubled due to the harassment by the drivers. We found that Vijay and Prakash passed lewd comments at her after they were instigated by one Narsinga Rao,” Alwal inspector T. Anand Reddy said quoting her parents.

Police also found that Gautami was ill due to regular fits since some years. Other drivers of the stand said that the suspects in Gautami’s death had the habit of teasing girls.
