Krishnagiri: A timely alert saved a 17- year-old juvenile. He could have been beaten to death by villagers for sexually abusing a minor girl of the same area.
On Monday night, Shoolagiri police of Krishnagiri arrested Raj (name changed) of Gundukuriki village here.
He was admitted to the Hosur government hospital for injuries sustained because he was brutally beaten up by angry villagers.
“Police saved him for the angry villagers could have beaten him to death,” say sources who add, “Villagers became violent because Raj had committed the mistake for the second time. Earlier, he was arrested for a similar offence and sent to the government home in Salem. He came out on bail.”
According to the villager, the girl was abducted by Raj when she was walking alone to join her relatives working in the fields. She was taken to an isolated place where she was raped. Her relatives who went in search of the girl heard her cries. Raj tried to flee, but was nabbed and brought to the village. There, he was tied to a lamp post and brutally battered till police came.
