MALAPPURAM: The Manjeri Govt Medical College Hospital authorities have asked a nursing assistant and a cleaner in the gynaecology department to stay away from duty pending inquiry in connection with delivery in the toilet. Principal Dr K. Mohanan said further action would be taken based on the probe panel report.
The two-member panel consisting of gynaecology head Dr Ambujam and hospital superintendent Dr K.V. Nandakumar has completed probe and submitted the report to the principal. “The principal will forward the report to the health minister for further action. Nothing more can be disclosed now,” Dr Nandakumar said. Earlier the panel had recorded statements of the women who gave birth to her first baby in the hospital toilet, her relatives, doctors, nurses and attenders on duty during the incident and others in the ward.
The woman and the newborn are still at the hospital and are in good health. The delivery of the 24-year old Dalit woman in a toilet of the labour ward of the hospital on Friday had invited outrage with many organisations coming out with protests and marches to the hospital.
