Former jawan held for shooting two relatives dead

Former jawan Matta Sambasiva Rao has been taken into custody while his father and co-accused Matta Chennaiah is absconding

Vijayawada: An ex-Army man has been arrested by police for firing in which two persons have been killed and another seriously injured.

Guntur additional superintendent of police N.V.S. Murthy said the former jawan Matta Sambasiva Rao has been taken into custody while his father and co-accused Matta Chennaiah is absconding.

Giving details, ASP Murthy explained that there had been disputes between Matta Siva and Matta Balakrishna with Sambasiva Rao and Chennaiah since past 12 years over farmlands situated in their village. On Chennaiah’s provocation, the ex-jawan opened fire with his pistol, killing Siva and Balakrishna on the spot. Matta Veeranjaneyulu, who tried to intervene, got severely injured in the firing and is battling for life in Guntur Government Hospital.

Referring to another incident, the ASP said police have arrested one Konuru Srinivasa Chakravarthy for murder of two women Padmavati and Pratyusha at Sattenapalli on August 28. He said that Chakravarthy was a close relative of the women and murdered them due to a dispute over farmlands.

Meanwhile, three class 5 students have been injured when debris from the roof of a classroom in which they were studying fell on them. The incident occurred at Burandoddi village in C. Belagal mandal. District educational officer (DEO) M. Sai Ram and executive engineer Eeranna visited the school on Wednesday and inquired into the mishap.

The DEO said the school had been repaired under Nadu-Nedu programme of the state government. He announced that assistant engineer Ravi Kumar and cluster resource person Srinivasulu have been suspended for faulty works. School headmaster Krupanandam and mandal educational officer Jyothi have been issued show-cause notices as to why action must not be taken against them.
It is learnt when the debris fell from the roof, there were 48 students in the classroom.
