Hyderabad: Rash drivers create trouble on Outer Ring Road

n As per data released by the police, around 17,632 cases of traffic violations were recorded by cops on ORR since January 1.

Hyderabad: Careless and rash drivers continue to create mayhem on the city’s Outer Ring Road. In the last 12 days, around 1,000 drivers have been fined by the traffic police for driving dangerously or driving on the wrong side.

This is the highest number of violations recorded ever on ORR in such a short period of time. Traffic police officials say that since entry-exit points and U-turn points are limited on the ORR, many drivers take wrong routes to get to their exit points, which lead to danger for other motorists and road users.

According to Cyberabad traffic police officials, during the six-day drive between August 20 and 26, 734 drivers were caught driving dangerously on the ORR.

“They were driving on the wrong side of the road, entering ORR from the wrong entry point, or were driving in a rash and negligent manner. Some of them were also involved in lane violations,” said a senior traffic police official.

“The total fine amount collected from these drivers was Rs 5,43,600,” he added.
This year the ORR has witnessed a large number of traffic rule violations by four-wheeler and truck drivers.

As per data released by the traffic police, over 17,632 cases of various road rule violations were recorded by cops on the Outer Ring Road since January 1.
“Around Rs 1.37 crore was collected as fines in connection with these cases,” said an official.

Apart from dangerous driving, wrong parking is another frequent violation.
“Parking on the roadside without taking enough precautions will cause accidents. The driver must park only in the extreme left lane (service lane), with hazard lights (parking lights) on if there is a mechanical failure,” added a police official. This is a must to prevent accidents.

With the increasing traffic rule violations, the traffic police has stepped up vigil on high-speed corridors. As many as five patrolling vehicles have been pressed into service on ORR, from Peddamberpet to Shamirpet through Shamshabad, said police officials.
