Kerala: A jeep mud rally for a noble cause

On November 27, some 35 Mahindra Thar jeeps will hammer through the mud, pit and hills near Mukkam.

KOZHIKODE: Come to Cheruvadi near Mukkam on November 27, some 35 Mahindra Thar jeeps will hammer through the mud, pit and hills vying to rush into the top slot. The race, Great Mud Escape of Road Challenge is being organised jointly by Adventure Club Cheruvadi and Eram Motors for a noble cause. The fund collected from the race would be used for the house construction of Basheer Kolothumthodika, a kidney patient.

“As many as 35 teams from Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will be participating. The fund collected through registration will be used for the house construction,” said Gulam Hussain, chief patron of the committee which formed for the purpose.

They have artificially set a mud race ground at Pazhamparambu. The 2.75 km stretch consists of five large gutters filled with water and four gutters filled with mud besides several crests and troughs. The registration process will kick start at 9 am at Cheruvadi town following which the race jeeps would proceed towards the ground. A jeep mud rally is being conducted for the first time in the high ranges of Kozhikode. Legislators George M. Thomas and P.V. Anwar, among others, will take part in the flag off ceremony.
