Nigerian teenager who lives in plastic bowl hopes to run her own business one day

The 19-year-old girl suffers from a mysterious condition that had caused her arms and legs to stop developing once she was six months old.

Rahma Haruna, 19, maintains a bright and positive outlook despite the fact that she is nearly immobile. She suffers from a mysterious condition that had caused her arms and legs to stop developing once she was six months old.

The teenager, who resides with her family in the village of Lahadin Makole, in Nigeria, not only has to endure chronic pain but also spends her waking hours in a plastic bowl, which her family carry her around in. Her brother, Fahad, would take her to the city of Kano every day to beg for handouts.

However, things improved for the Haruna family when a journalist, Ibrahim Jigri, gave Rahma a wheelchair last year and local freelance photographer Sani Maikatanga, shared the girl’s images on social media that prompted people to offer monetary help. Her family are now hopeful that Rahma receives proper medical treatment soon. Despite her severe physical handicap, she dreams of starting her own business one day. “A grocery store and anything people buy, that is what I want,” she told The Telegraph.
