No time to take a break!

Some unlucky professionals don't get to take a break during the festive season and they share their woes with us.

While the rest of the world is on a holiday but you are sitting at your office desk just staring at the computer, sticking to your tight deadlines? Then you can relate to these experiences. Many companies in Bengaluru will be shutting down for a week during the holiday season but there are a few professionals who work even on days like Christmas and the New Year’s. What a travesty, right?

Vivek Dubey, a video editor did not get any leaves approved so he has to stay back in the city working. He says, “I am definitely feeling de-motivated and frustrated. I don’t know how I am going to concentrate on work while friends and family are enjoying. We need to work in the day until late night and do not even get a half-day. This could be called constrained employment.”

But, despite that, Vivek plans to chill with his friends and have nice dinner with colleagues on his way back from work, during these holidays. He will also be helping a church nearby in decorations and doing some other social work as well on his day off. Another nightmare of staying back is completing your targets and this business associate can relate to that.

Sanjay Dinesh, a business associate who works for a learning app says he has been asked to stay back at work to complete his targets for the month. “It does get really miserable working on our day offs. We totally forget about our personal lives due to so much pressure at work. We work on our off days so we don’t have to go through a tough time for the upcoming week. One of my colleagues told me recently that she hasn’t gone back home in a year because she couldn’t take out time from work.”

But, many like Nithin MR who works in the hospitality industry knew what they were signing up for before joining their work. Nithin compensates by spending a little more time with his family whenever he can. “I take them out for a dinner or a small outing to compensate for the days I can’t spend time with them,” he says.
