KOZHIKODE: Dr. Pradeep Kumar constructed a low-cost, environment-friendly house and arranged its furniture without using a single piece of wood. His home, called Woodnil, was featured in Limca Book of Records in 2009. Now, Dr.Pradeep Kumar, a retired scientist of Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode, has set his second Guinness world record this year after publishing his book describing the features of his own first record.
His book ‘Woodnil+101 Tips’ has entered the Guinness and Limca Book of Records for being the first one written based on his own previous record.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar’s book published by Poorna Publications explains the techniques of building his house. All photographs and illustrations in the book and the editing are by the author.
“The book describes valuable tips for constructing a low-cost, environment-friendly beautiful house that may help to minimise the mental agony and physical stress of house construction and will also give one the pleasure of constructing a dream house,” says Dr Pradeep Kumar.
He came up with the idea of building a house without cutting a single piece of wood and the Ministry of Environment also appreciated the no-wood house for its exclusivity. Considerable savings were made in the construction cost by applying scientific ideas and keeping away superstitions. “I have saved more than 30 percent of what is normally spent on a 2311square feet house” Dr.Pradeep Kumar added.
