Ko samui for the calm

Sandalwood actress Sharmiela Mandre who was last seen in Aake travelled to Thailand's Ko Samui with her friends to celebrate her birthday...

I went there with a bunch of my friends and we were there in the month of October for about five days. Everyone warned us that it was monsoon season, and to expect a lot of rain, but surprisingly there was none. Right from the beaches to the places we went to eat, to the massages every thing was wonderful.

1 The shopping in Ko Samui is very limited. There are two malls with very ordinary shops of knick-knacks one can also get back home. Therefore, we stuck to shopping for a lot of beachwear — From swim suits to cover-ups. The beach attire is unique here.

2 We stayed at the Chaweng Beach. But since we are beach lovers, we visited beaches like Lamar, Bo Phut and Lipa Noi (Nikki Beach) — where we celebrated my birthday. I would also recommend getting a massage and braids done. You should also visit the Night Market where traders sell their goods.

3 I am a big fan of seafood, which is also something you should try there. For my birthday, my friends had organised a dinner in a tent on a beach. I would strongly recommend the seafood pasta and risotto.

4 We stayed at a hotel overlooking the beach. In addition to walking, there was an option of hiring a bike or car. But since we were a big group, we hired a car and travelled to the beaches.

5 I have been to Bangkok and Ko Samui a number of times. Bangkok is very commercial while Ko Samui is beautifully maintained and clean. The people are warm and welcoming. Ko Samui is not hard to get around. But if you do want help, it’s readily available. I love the warmth of the Thais.
