119-year-old from Hyderabad is country's oldest woman

Tekumatla Narsamma was born on January 1, 1898 in Bonguluru village near Adibhatla in Ranga Reddy district.

Hyderabad: A 119-year-old woman from Vanasthalipuram has been recognised by the High Range Book of Records as the oldest woman in the country.

Ms. Tekumatla Narsamma was born on January 1, 1898 in Bonguluru village near Adibhatla in Ranga Reddy district. Narasamma belonged to the ‘Holia Dasari’ community.

She got married to Tekumatla Jangaiah in her 16s and shifted to Vanasthalipuram four decades back. She was blessed with three sons and a daughter. All the sons died in their childhood. The daughter, Gollu Pentamma (74), is taking care of her mother after the desmise of Jangaiah two decades ago.

Based on her Aadhaar data, the High Range Book of Records recognised her as the oldest woman in the country. Earlier, the record was held by Rosa alias Kunjannam (112) from Thrissur.

Speaking to the media, Ms. Pentamma said that Ms. Narsamma has no health complications and takes rice three times a day. “As per my knowledge, she had never taken any tablet for fever or cold,” she said.
