Shree Jalaram Dhaam in Mattancherry is quenching the thirst of pedestrians by serving them cool buttermilk. In the hot summer, one can’t appreciate enough the praiseworthy initiative of the temple.

They provide buttermilk to the thirsty from March to May between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm, six days a week .The drink is freshly prepared to keep its quality. One can have as many glasses as they want, free of cost.

“I come here every day. It is refreshing to have buttermilk during play. I don’t need to go home for drinking water,” says a student named Dileep. Syril from Angamali says, “It is really helpful to have cool buttermilk in this hot weather.”

People from different places and communities make use of this opportunity to get refreshed. Workers near the temple are the luckiest. “We get not only buttermilk, also meals and payasam from the temple,” says Rajmohan, who works in a shop in the area.

They also provide uniforms and books to students. The funds are raised from donations. “We think quenching the thirst of the pedestrians in this hot weather is something we should do,”says Nilesh, a member of the temple trust.
