Tamil Nadu: Forest department to use drones for monitoring wildlife

The sound of the drone is similar to the buzz of honey bee which scares the wild animals.

Krishnagiri: The drones or the unmanned aerial vehicle have joined the Krishnagiri forest department, which according to officials will be used to monitor wild animals and also to scare them.

On Saturday, drones were tested in the forest region in Denkannikottai taluk of Krishnagiri during a training session held for the staff about using the device and collect information from the drone. According to the forest department staff, Tamil Nadu is the second state after Uttarakhand to get drones given by the Union environment and forest ministry for real-time monitoring of wild animals and other activities.

The Tamil Nadu forest department also found a new use of the drones, which can be used to scare wild animals including jumbos that move out of the forest for some reason. The sound of the drone is similar to the buzz of honey bee which scares the wild animals.
