Brain tumor cases are gradually increasing among the rural people in Guntur district.

GUNTUR: Brain tumor cases are gradually increasing among the rural people in Guntur district. Nearly 80 to 100 cases of brain tumor are being reported at the Government General Hospital (GGH), Guntur, from rural areas every month. The absence of brain tumor awareness was found to be the main cause of increase in the cases of brain tumor in chronic stages. The World Brain Tumor Day was observed in the GGH on Thursday.

The GGH is offering consultation, diagnosis and treatment to brain tumor patients free of cost. Expert doctors would diagnose brain tumor patients on every Tuesday and Thursday and round-the-clock service is available for patients in emergency condition. The GGH doctors said that treatment of brain tumors in benign stage is preferable. They said that absence of diagnostic services in the rural areas is the main cause of increasing brain tumor cases among rural people.

GGH neuro-surgeon Dr B. Syam Kumar said that early treatment of brain tumor was very complicated but now-a-days ultra-modern treatment is available. Hence, brain tumor patents need not worry about the treatment. He said that nearly 120 brain tumor surgeries used to be performed in the government hospital free of cost and many patients were treated with the help of modern medicines. Dr Syam Kumar directed the public to consult a doctor if they experience any symptoms of brain tumor as early detection is good for treatment.
