The great Madras bake sale

City’s baker community comes together for a bake sale this weekend along with food and entertainment.

What if we told you that you could get the best of city’s cakes and bakes all under one roof at the same time? When five like minded friends with an identical passion for baking get together, what results is the Great Madras Bake Sale of 2019. With over 30 stalls featuring 300 sweets and savouries, the 2019 inaugural edition is to take place on Sunday, August 4, between 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rani Meyammai Girls’ School, Adyar.

“I’ve been toying with the idea to showcase home bakers and host a bake sale for a long time now but didn’t know how to go about it, so when baker buddy Cindana Manickavel approached me with a similar idea under their event management company, ‘Centre Court Events’, I jumped at it,’’ says Maaria Tanveer, co-founder of the event.

“Cindana Manickavel of ‘Sugar Monkeys’ and Anu Prosper of ‘Chamber of Sugar’ are fellow bakers and very good friends. We are a close knit baking community and help each other when the need arises. Rajeev Vijaykumar and Cindana’s event company is spearheading this bake sale. Sai Rajeev is also a fellow home baker and wife of Rajeev, so that makes 5 of us”, she adds, naming the masterminds behind the whole event.

Along with scrumptious bakes and delicacies, the event will also host acoustic and unplugged performances by talented singers, songwriters, rappers and musicians so people can come see, taste and experience the best of the bakers work, and also have a great time with friends and family.

The sale is in support of Yein Udaan, an NGO that transforms communities as a whole by providing safe spaces for underprivileged people with quality academic, cultural and sports training.
