No fry, just steam

Sandalwood actress Sangeetha Bhatt shares her favourite healthy Masala Vada recipe.

Steamed Masala Vada

Ingredients
1 cup Toor dal soaked for 2-4 hours
1/2 cup of split chickpeas (channa dal)
1 inch ginger, chopped
Coriander, chopped
2 to 3 green chilli, chopped (tt)
2 to 3 tbsp grated coconut
1/2 lemon
1 tsp Jeera
Salt to taste

Method
Grind the dal (don’t mash completely), add jeera and a pinch of salt to it. Mix ginger, coriander, green chilli, grated coconut with the dal. Check salt.
Squeeze in lemon and bring together to form a dough.
Shape the dough according to the desired shape and steam in an idli steamer for about 25-30 minutes. This dish can be served with ghee and chutney.
