Food on the wheels: Masters of street food business

T.J Singh and Guddi Singh are the masters behind one of the first street food businesses in the city.

Their love for food and passion for cooking led them to open their own food truck a few years ago, which now serves delicious cuisines ranging from Indian to Chinese. Three years ago, the couple T.J Singh and Guddi Singh gave a thought about a post-retirement business. They thought of their strengths. Both of them were foodies and everyone in the house is a great cook. All the pieces fell into place and thus began their journey with the food truck.

The food truck is located in the busy Film Nagar Club area and is open every day from 6 pm to midnight. “The best part about our food is that the recipes are all our own and 95 per cent of the products we use are homemade. Hence our food is fresh and completely hygienic. We are present in the truck 24x7 to cater to the needs of the customers. My husband takes care of kitchen, while I take orders and interact with the customers,” Guddi says.

The truck has been very successful and is a hit among the foodies in the city. Even people from Secunderabad are regular customers. According to the couple, around 100 customers stop by the truck every day. The menu is huge, with 50-60 different food varieties, and very economical, ranging between Rs 40 to Rs 100 per item. They also offer catering services and have covered many birthday parties and events. The specialities are shawarma, veg and non-veg rolls, parathas, Mughlai chicken and butter chicken.

Guddi says it is fun. “We enjoy each moment. We also interact with some customers; It takes the pressure off.” “Cooking in the truck is not easy, but we work hard and sincerely, which is why people love our food and always want to come back,” says Singh.
